چکیده

Resume of previous work Knowles (1934) made the following observations in regard to the development of tolerance in monkey malaria. Between November' 1932 and August 1933, a Silenus rhesus monkey was given four injections with monkey plasmodium, treated each time with small doses of quinine, and developed a chronic infection, which apparently cleared up. On 7th August, 1933, it was given a 5th injection of infected blood, with no response. On 30th August, 1933, it was given a 6th injection (one-sixth of this amount is usually needed to produce a severe infection in a normal animal). There was no response. On 14th October, 1933, a still larger dose was given. After an incubation period of 11 days, the parasites appeared in the peripheral blood, but the rate of multiplication was much slower than in

The Duration of Immunity to Plasmodium Knowlesi Malaria in Rhesus Monkeys

Rhesus monkeys with experimental Plasmodium knowlesi infections of varying duration were treated with sodium sulfathiazole to sterilize the infection and after differing lengths of time were reinoculated intraperitoneally with homologous strains of the plasmodium, for the purpose of determining whether there is any acquired immunity to malaria in hosts from whom all parasites have been removed....

Stability and Numerical Analysis of Malaria- mTB- HIV/AIDS Co-infection (TECHNICAL NOTE)

In this paper, we develop a mathematical model to examine the transmission dynamics of curable malaria, curable mTB and non-curable HIV/AIDS and their co-infection. The size of population has been taken as varying due to the emigration of susceptible population. The total population is divided into five subclasses as susceptible, malaria infected, mTB infected, HIV infection and AIDS by assumin...

Yersinia enterocolitica Infection in a Vervet Monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) in Iran

A vervet monkey (Cercopithecus aethiops) housed at quarantine of Razi vaccine and serum research institute died following a few days of sickness. Multiple abscesses on the surface and inside the liver and enlargement of spleen with pinpoint white spot were the most prominent macroscopic features. We examined the organs of the dead monkey and Yersinia enterocolitica was isolated. In histopatho...

Potent in vivo anti-malaria activity of Goniothalamin against rodent malaria parasite infection in mice

Goniothalamin was evaluated for its anti-malaria activity in-vivo, using the 4-Day Suppressive Test (Peters & Robinson, 1975). The test were carried out against two strains of rodent malaria parasites, the sensitive strain P. berghei ANKA (MRA 311) strain and the resistant strain P. yoelii (MRA 312). An Initial screening was carried out using a single dose of 10 mg/kg body weight administered s...
